Doesn't work August 23, 2010 Not Happy Apparently this item will not work on glass top stoves. That is an important piece of information that is not conveyed to the consumer. I am in the process of trying to get my money back.
time and energy saver August 3, 2010 joey o I bought this because my wife sometimes likes to can when I'm NOT around. The big, standard canning pot can be extremely heavy and somewhat dangerous considering the amount of hot water involved. This canner allows for quicker processing while using less water which in turn consumes less energy to achieve the boiling point/steam point. We liked it so much, I bought a second one for my mother-in-law.

I just received my Back to basics home steam canner and am sad to report after being on the burner on high for over an hour it still never came to a boil. So if you have a glass top stove you can NOT use this canner. The bottom on the canner is not flat so it will not work.

I used this product for the first time last year as a neighbor of mine had it. We were canning peaches and making jam. I asked her to bring her equipment so we could have two hot water baths going at the same time. I had never heard of this product until she brought it over and we used it. I couldn't believe the ease of use and there was much less mess. It's great not having to boil gallons of water and wait for it them see I guessed and put in too much or too little water. The product is easy to use and fast. I just had to have one of my own! I'll never use the old fashioned hot water bath again.
This Steamer is Jammin' May 8, 2010 Jim Hooper (McLeansville, NC USA) 3 out of 4 found this review helpful
I purchased the steam canner for jams and jellies. It is GREAT!!
I would not use it for low acid foods like meat or vegetables.
Fast and easy, I was done making 20 8-ounce jars of strawberry jam in 1.5 hours.
Gets up to steam quick and batch changing is fast and easy without a single cracked jar.
I still use the pressure canner for my low-acid preserving.
